Networking

We believe in connecting students with the local community and connecting our community with the world. Here are a few connections and projects the Global Studies Group has been involved with that deal with global themes we believe in:

Annual Florida Model European Conference GSG works closely with the UF Model EU Club, particularly to engineer this important, 3-day, yearly event where participating students from universities all around Florida represent an institution and country in the European Union in order to come together to solve some of the biggest crises faced by Europe. It is an excellent opportunity to sharpen your debating skills and increase awareness and knowledge of impactful international dilemmas.

Maude’s World Music Night In partnership with Maude’s Classic Cafe, GSG occasionally hosts a night of international music at Maude’s, which is in the heart of Gainesville’s downtown. It’s the perfect opportunity for coffee, friends, and even practicing another language, with an age limit of 18 & up.

Edible Plant Project (.org)On weekends, the UF Global Studies Group gathers volunteers to partake in an nonprofit organic farming initiative by local farmers in Gainesville. On the second Wednesday of every month, many of the fruits and vegetables grown in this project are sold at the Downtown Farmer’s Market. Working in the gardens teaches volunteers basic planting knowledge and relays the broader themes of sustainability in practice.

Florida Regional Model Arab League In partnership with the Arab Student Association, GSG participates in an annual conference in which students mimic a meeting of the actual Arab League, an organization consisting of various Arab countries whose goal is to “draw closer the relations between member States and coordinate collaboration between them, to safeguard their independence and sovereignty, and to consider in a general way the affairs and interests of the Arab countries.”
